SOFTWARE SYSTEM MAKES ROSE CITY A SURVIVOR TOO
North American cartonmakers, stranded on the island of intense competition and marooned in the outback of reduced margins and increased customer demands, are engaged in a battle of survival. The best will adopt skills and adapt systems to ensure that their torch is not extinguished and their adventure ended.
Rose City Printing & Packaging is one such survivor. Based in Portland, Oregon, this small folding carton packaging operation has 65 employees working a variety of shifts to provide its customers with 24-hour, 7-day-a-week flexibility. But what the company lacks in size, it makes up for in productivity, thanks in large part to its investment in a new software system. Early last year, Rose City invested nearly $100,000 in Amtech's Imaginera software system, a suite that has dramatically improved productivity and profitability.
The Windows-based software has allowed Rose City to better manage processes that affect its bottom line. These include financial applications; customer service; cost estimating and quoting; order processing; management queries, including job cost; plant management, including labor utilization and material waste containment; process improvement; and business planning. All are critical information needs for a new dynamic management team.
