First, Amtech provides a wireless infrastructure in the warehouse. This includes a site survey to guarantee wireless coverage, and the installation of access points in the warehouse. This allows the ruggedized PocketPCs (with integrated scanners) to be connected to the system in real time. Either through downloaded or manually entered EDI orders, Shipping can create pick slips on the computer with an easy to navigate screen. These pick slips are printed on peel and stick label stock and handed to pickers. Items to be picked are automatically shown on the handheld scanner. Pickers can choose the next item to be picked, and see a list of inventory locations where they can find the item. Once found, the load tag is scanned, and the picked quantity is automatically reduced from inventory. Once the pick is done for that unit, the picker simply peels and sticks the label to the new pallet, then stages the unit for loading. The unit is then loaded onto the truck using a forklift PC equipped with a scanner. The delivery receipt is generated automatically - right from the forklift.
